Discord has become an essential platform for gamers worldwide. It’s a powerful tool that can be used to communicate and interact with communities, servers, and friends. It has also slowly entered the school and business industry, with companies and students using it as an alternative way of communicating with each other.
To start building a community, you’ll have to create and manage a Discord server. Servers kind of act like a hub or group where people can interact with each other, use different Discord bots, share media, and do other exciting things.
Discord is pretty much free to use for everyone. But, like most other businesses and companies, Discord still has to make some money. They make money in a few ways. They offer monthly subscription services called “Nitro” to unlock more features such as animated PFPs, custom backgrounds, server-based profiles, among many others.
They also earn money through server boosts. Boosting a server to a specific level will unlock new features and rewards for everyone within the server to enjoy. Let’s talk about how to boost Discord servers and how they work.
What are Discord Server Boosts?

Server boosts are used in servers to unlock specific features and perks. These can help you grow your server and attract more users. All of the features and perks are available server-wide, and everyone who is a member of the server can enjoy them.
By default, anyone can boost your server. This uses up one of your available server boosts and rewards you with an exclusive boost badge. It also unlocks an exclusive role for you within that server.
There are 3 different levels that you can achieve through server boosts. Each of these levels requires a specific amount of server boosts and will unlock different features.
How Much are Discord Server Boosts and How To Get Them?
First, let’s talk about the price of each server boost. Each server boost costs $4.99 per month. You can directly buy them through the Discord website or using your Discord app. You can get an additional 30% off when buying server boosts if you are subscribed to Nitro or Nitro Classic.
This brings each boost down to only $3.5 each. Additionally, you also get two free server boosts by simply subscribing to Discord Nitro. This means that you can automatically take a server to at least level 1 by simply getting Discord Nitro.
Getting Nitro is definitely worth it if you are a server manager or planning to upgrade your server to higher levels. Discord Nitro is available for $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year. You can also get Nitro Classic at $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year. Both plans come with a 30% discount when purchasing server boosts.
Benefits
Of course, purchasing and using server boosts comes with its own perks and benefits. The standard free Discord server supports up to 50 custom emojis, 64 Kbps – 96 Kbps audio quality, and only 720p 30FPS streaming and screen sharing features.
To unlock more features, you’ll have to reach one of three server levels.
Level 1 – Requires 2 Server Boosts
The first level is actually very easy to unlock because it only requires you to use two server boosts. This is equal to $9.98 monthly or for free if you are subscribed to Discord Nitro. It allows you to add up to 100 custom emojis, upload a custom server invite background, 15 custom sticker slots, and add an animated server icon.
Your server also gets a small audio and video quality boost at 128 Kbps and 720p 60FPS streaming and screen sharing. Again, this is very easy to achieve and is perfect for small communities or servers with friends who have an existing Discord Nitro subscription.
Level 2 – Requires 15 Server Boosts
Getting your server boosted to level 2 is a little harder since it requires 15 boosts. This equates to around 8 users with Discord Nitro, and two free server boosts each. If you plan on purchasing all the boosts instead, it will cost you $74.85 without the 30% Nitro discount.
If you get to server level 2, you get everything included in level 1 plus an additional 50 custom emojis, the ability to add a server banner, 15 additional custom sticker slots, the ability to create private threads, and a 50 MB upload limit for all members within the server. Additionally, you also get a decent audio and video quality upgrade at 256 Kbps audio quality and 1080p 60FPS screen sharing and live streaming options.
Level 3 – Requires 30 Server Boosts
Finally, we have server level 3. Level 3 is the hardest to achieve and is usually only used by very large communities and servers. It requires a total of 30 server boosts or around $149.70 per month, excluding Nitro discounts and freebies.
It includes everything that was included in the first two levels but has a 100 MB upload limit, a total of 250 emoji slots, a total of 60 stickers slots, an animated server banner, and another upgrade to the audio quality, bumping it up to 384 Kbps. It also allows you to use a Vanity URL which is essential for branding and marketing for big businesses and communities.
