In Stardew Valley, there are countless materials that players can gather which are needed for various items and recipes. One of the rarer items is called the Earth Crystal, a distinctive mineral that is used for crafting, gifting, and more. Players can actually stumble upon the Earth Crystals in more ways than one, in fact.
With that being said, this guide will show you where to find the Stardew Valley Earth Crystals and what you can do with them. In addition to the crafting and gifting aspects, there is more that you can do with the mineral in question. We’ll dig into it, literally.
Where to Find and Farm Earth Crystals
The best way to find and farm Earth Crystals in Stardew Valley is to head down into the Mines and search for Geodes and Omni Geodes. Specifically, you’ll need to search through floors 1-39, as these are the only ones that have a chance of spawning the crystals. Once you find a Geode, pick it up and take it to Clint the Blacksmith to be broken down for 25g per crackable mineral. There is a 1/16 chance that your Geode will contain an Earth Crystal.
If you don’t feel like hunting down Geodes in the mine, there are a few other ways that players can get Earth Crystals, but the chances are much slimmer. There is a 10% chance that you will get a crystal when you kill Duggies in the Mines on floors 1-29. Further, using the panning tool also has a 4.9% chance to drop Stardew Valley Earth Crystals as a reward.
The other way you can obtain crystals is from Haunted Skulls, Fishing for treasure chests, and slaying Wilderness Golems as a part of the WIlderness Farm type, all of which have extremely low drop rates.
Expert Tip
Be mindful of where you detonate bombs while you explore the Mines for the earth-based crystals. Bombs can destroy them entirely, wiping away farming opportunities to obtain the desirable minerals. Stick with your pickaxe as you look for the resource in question here.
What To Do With Earth Crystals
Now that you know how to obtain Earth Crystals, let us now go over what they can be used for. To start, these crystals are key in purchasing the Earth Obelisk in the Wizard’s Tower. It’s a building structure that can instantly transport you to the Mountains in the Valley. Ten Earth Crystals are required here, along with ten Iridium Bars and 500,000g.
As far as crafting goes, they are also required to make a Mayonnaise Machine. This is great for when you’re looking to turn some eggs into a tasty condiment after attaining Farming Level 2. The recipe is easy to follow along with a few other ingredients:
- Earth Crystal (x1)
- Wood (x15)
- Stone (x15)
- Copper Bar (x1)
Furthermore, certain quests will require Earth Crystals as well, like the Fish Pond quest and various Help Wanted Board quests from Pierre’s General Store. The latter occurs randomly, so be sure to stop by Pierre’s to see what’s being requested across town.
If you have an excess of Stardew Valley Earth Crystals, you can all gift them to any of the citizens of Pelican Town. However, avoid presenting the crystal to Linus and Pierre, for they don’t seem too fond of the resource.
Alternatively, you can also hold on to them to complete the Geologist’s Bundle in the Boiler Room. Geologists will also need to gather Fire Quartz, Frozen Tear, and regular Quartz to complete the package. As a result, they’ll be rewarded with 5 Omni Geodes to break apart.
Now that you know both what they are used for and how to farm them, you should now have no problem obtaining Stardew Valley Earth Crystals. Before you go, try considering a tailoring route when you have a crystal in your inventory. By using your Sewing Machine, the resource is used to create a new shirt; an orange dye is obtainable as well.
