Recently someone took to Reddit requesting movies primarily indoors cause there is an apocalypse, storm, winter, or just some sort of danger outside, where a group of people needs to help together to survive. Here are the top-voted film recommendations.
1. 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)

Michelle wakes up in a bunker with a stranger who informs her that the world outside is inhabitable. The last thing she remembers is her break-up with her fiance and having an accident. She cannot digest the information and decides to escape. This sci-fi psychological thriller was Dan Trachtenberg’s directorial debut and has received critical acclaim.
2. The Mist (2007)
The Mist is a horror thriller where David and his son are trapped in a supermarket with other people in their town. Outside, a freak storm caused a mist that suddenly covered the entire village.
The storm didn’t bring just the mist; it brought bloodthirsty creatures that devour anything in their path. The film plays with compelling moral questions and how greed affects a human who is afraid.
3. The Hateful Eight TV Series (2019)
A four-part TV series was released four years after the successful release of the movie The Hateful Eight in 2015 on Netflix. Tarantino (the director) fans went crazy as the TV show was a new version with over 20 minutes of new material.
The story is the same in this post-civil war western. Two bounty hunters and an outlaw are trapped in a stagecoach shop in a windy, raging blizzard. A collection of rogues come and go to keep them company, resulting in interesting (and bloody) developments.
4. Snowpiercer (2013)
This post-apocalyptic movie features an exciting plot with mature themes. After the apocalypse happens and the Earth is covered in snow, humanity’s last survivors are forced on a super train that travels around the globe. Even inside the train, there is a stark social inequality.
The enslaved people are kept separate from the elite. Curtis (Chris Evans) leads a group of people to the engine room who want change and control over their future.
5. This Is the End (2013)
James Franco, starring as himself, invites his celebrity friends to a party. Still, they get stuck inside his house as strange apocalyptic events happen. When supplies dwindle, cabin fever gets to the six friends, hilariously tearing their friendship apart. Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, and Michael Cera also star as themselves.
6. The Thing (1982)
This classic horror film from the 80s has that extra zing that modern horror films often lack. A research team is trapped in their base camp after they rescue a sled dog and find out it is an alien that takes the form of its victims. Kurt Russell, who plays a helicopter pilot, leads the camp crew in a fight against this creature before it eats them all.
7. Coherence (2013)
Eight friends reunite for dinner in North Carolina on the night of Miller’s Comet’s passing. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a happy dinner and meeting of friends turns into a nightmare when a power outage occurs. When everyone steps outside, they see a comet passing in the night sky. After that point, havoc ensues.
8. Night of the Living Dead (1968)
This sci-fi horror is one of the very first zombie movies. Radiation from a fallen satellite causes the dead to rise from their graves. It follows seven strangers trapped in a rural farmhouse in western Pennsylvania, under assault by an enlarging group of flesh-eating, undead zombies.
9. It Comes At Night (2017)
Two families are forced to stay together in one house when an unexpected apocalypse occurs. They have good intentions, but base human instincts soon kick in, resulting in distrust and paranoia.
Someone noted, “this film hit a different note for people who watched at the start of the Covid pandemic.”
10. It’s a Disaster (2012)
Another dinner apocalypse disaster movie. This one’s a comedy, though, and they meet for brunch. When four couples meet for brunch and the world suddenly goes through armageddon, they are forced to think of ways to escape.
