We all know that a new Call of Duty game drops every year. 2022 is no different, other than that we already know so much more about this year’s FPS entry than usual. Infinity Ward is back in the drivers seat with a sequel to its Modern Warfare reboot, alongside a brand-new Warzone expansion. The studio seems to be gearing up for an imminent reveal, as its Twitter account has gone completely dark.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Announcement Incoming
If the official Infinity Ward Twitter account is anything to go by, then a Modern Warfare 2 reveal could be just around the corner. Both the profile picture and cover photo have been changed to almost entirely black images. They comprise part of a bigger image that hasn’t been revealed yet — though you can bet it’s promotional material from Modern Warfare 2.
The game was first announced in February 2022, in a short release confirming its existence. That was alongside details of a new Warzone expansion for next-gen consoles and PC only. However, a new Activision financial report shares even more about the game. “This year’s Call of Duty is a sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare, the most successful Call of Duty title to date, and will be the most advanced experience in franchise history,” it says.
Released today, April 25, it also confirms that the new Warzone sequel “features groundbreaking innovations” to gameplay. While we don’t know what that is yet, expect a new map, weapons, and performance tweaks to fit the modern hardware. On top of that, the earnings call reaffirmed the release of a mobile Warzone game. However, details are again rather slim. Given the enormous player base on mobile games, and CoD Mobile, it’s sure to be a success.
As such, all these factors seem to point towards a Modern Warfare 2 reveal very soon. Sledgehammer Games confirmed 2021’s Vanguard in August of that year. However, it seems like this upcoming game will go public much, much earlier.
