New World is an MMORPG unlike any other. It’s the first major game developed by Amazon Games, marking the tech giant’s leap into the world of game development. Unsurprisingly, it’s garnered plenty of attention from prospective players as its release date edges ever closer. There’s one big question on everyone’s minds, though: is New World coming to Xbox?
Will New World Release on Xbox?
Currently, New World doesn’t have an Xbox release date. This doesn’t mean it won’t arrive on Xbox in the future. However, as of right now, the only New World platform is PC.
So far, developers Amazon Games Orange County are only preparing New World for a PC launch. As an expansive and immersive MMORPG, it’s the most suitable platform for a game of this type. As such, there’s no confirmation of New World heading to PlayStation or Xbox consoles. In fact, game director Scot Lane has ruled out a console release at the moment, stating the graphics have been deemed too advanced for consoles to run.
However, a company as huge as Amazon won’t want to only target PC players. It means a New World console port could easily release in the future – but perhaps with scaled down graphics. Amazon could well base the game’s future releases on how it does following its launch. New World unconventionally opts for a pay-to-play system, as most MMOs are free-to-play. By launching first on PC, Amazon might be testing the waters to gauge audience reaction to this.
Even if New World never releases on Xbox, it’s worth remembering that by no means will this be Amazon Games’ last release. It seems like the company is finally gearing up to compete with the likes of Sony and Microsoft – and to do that, it will have to release games in the future. With the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S available now, there’s no way Amazon will miss out the chance to entice players on the latest systems with its games. However, as of present, we won’t be seeing New World on consoles.
