The massively open-world phenomenon of New World is currently being enjoyed by an overabundance of players. The game is so popular that queue times have become quite extensive. But that’s just part of the cost that one pays for when it comes to downloading a popular AAA game. However, with many other multiplayer games adopting a free-to-play model, you might be wondering if Amazon’s New World follows the same path.
Is New World a Free-To-Play Game?
New World is not a free-to-play game. It’s a standard digital release that costs $39.99, or $49.99 for the Deluxe Edition. Luckily, the game doesn’t follow a monthly subscription model, meaning there are no added fees. In other words, you pay for the game once, and then you can play whenever you choose at no extra cost.
It’s unlikely that we’ll see a free-to-play practice be implemented with New World anytime soon. With the recent release being incredibly successful, Amazon almost certainly won’t see a reason to lower the game’s cost. Maybe, sometime in the future, they could go down that route if popularity wanes over the next few years. After all, some of the more well-known MMOs on Steam started out as paid titles before going free-to-play.
Still, with how popular New World is, paying for the game one-time is already a steal. It’s Amazon’s first major game, and it’s doing very well with critical and audience reception. That’s good business, since the idea of paying for a game’s experience on a monthly basis might turn some folks away. So, if you plan on racking up countless hours on New World — or already have and continue to play — you’re already getting your money’s worth.
Keep in mind that deals for the game could come into place sometime soon with the holiday season approaching. Since it is a one-time purchase, waiting around for a Steam or Amazon sale could possibly save you a few bucks. But only if you’re willing the play the waiting game in favor of playing the one you want.
