Joe & Mac first debuted in arcades way back in 1991 and now 30 years later the games developers have announced the duos return with an expected 2022 release date.

The remake is being developed by Microids with Mr. Nutz Studio, the same group that remade Toki, offering their trademark development on the remake.

According to Destructoid, “Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja will retain the narrative and gameplay of the original release, brought screaming from prehistory with fresh new visuals, new mechanics, and an all-new adventure mode, complete with new stages.”

The original game was enjoyed by many arcade players, although we agree with the current assessment that it was a bit cumbersome to play. The game was eventually ported to a variety of home-based consoles after its initial release. Among the consoles that received the game were SNES, NES, and Gameboy.

Nintendolife notes that no consoles have been announced yet, although we want to echo their sentiments and call for a Nintendo Switch version, ASAP. The game is expected to drop on multiple consoles and PC.

While Microids and Mr. Nutz Studio haven’t gone into detail over what “more than a remake” means, we’re already excited for Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja based solely on the awesome-looking cartoonish feel that the developer has become known for throughout its games.
