The Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series remakes are here to reintroduce Namco’s classic property to the world. The new collection includes reworked versions of both Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil. However, series fans are curious about what other new features are found in the bundle. Is it just the graphical upgrades to the previous titles? Or is there other bonuses included alongside these two delightful adventures?
New Features in Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series
The remakes of both Klonoa games found in this bundle have been rebuilt in Unity. While this may be something that players are apprehensive about at first, Namco has taken great care to make sure the games play as they originally did. They didn’t, however, change the audio. The original audio from both Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil have been preserved and ported to the new engine. Naturally, this does mean that the first game will have noticeable compression during cutscenes.
A new addition to the game is difficulty options. As expected, you can play the game as it originally shipped in standard mode. Alternatively, you can increase your health and have infinite lives with a new Easy difficulty. The new easy difficulty also lets Klonoa’s wind bullets travel farther than the original.
Another new feature added to the game is two-player support. Klonoa is a normally single-player game. But with Player 2 support, a second player can lend a hand. When this is activated, the second player can use a support jump to toss Klonoa into the air, allowing for an extra double jump at any time. This is found in both games.
Costumes are the final major addition found in the Phantasy Reverie Series. In the first game, players can equip costumes onto their hero. It doesn’t do much in the way of making the game easier, but it does make Klonoa look cute. It’s clear that the Klonoa remakes were made for fans of the original. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pick them up if you’re looking for a fun 2.5D platforming experience!
