Yes, the long and short of it is that Max Payne remakes are on the way. Even better, Remedy Entertainment is handling these remakes. The studio developed the first two games back in 2001 and 2003 respectively. Development of Max Payne 3 then went over to Rockstar Studios, so it’s good to see the series back in the hands of its creator.

In a press release shared yesterday, April 7, Remedy confirmed that it had agreed with Rockstar to remake the games. It included a quote from Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games, sharing his excitement at the series returning. The remakes will come out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Equally, they’ll be released as one single package, rather than both games separately.

Right now, the games are in the concept development stage. Therefore, they’re still quite a way off, so don’t expect gameplay or previews any time soon. However, in the years since Max Payne, Remedy has released some high-quality titles. They’re perhaps best known for Alan Wake, including last year’s remake and the upcoming 2023 sequel. That’s on top of other single-player games like Quantum Break, and more recently Control. As such, Max Payne is certainly in safe hands.

While it isn’t as exciting as a Max Payne 4, the chance to experience the first two games in high definition, with modernized gameplay, is an amazing one. It’ll still be several years off, but we can’t wait to see Max Payne return with style.
