Beeswax is one of the rarer but more useful materials in Minecraft. Well, calling it Beeswax is slightly disingenuous. It’s actually referred to as Honeycomb within the game, but this material is mostly utilized in a way that Beeswax would. Regardless, you’re here to find out how to best get this in your inventory, and we’re here to tell you how!
How to Get Beeswax in Minecraft
Getting your hands on some Honeycomb isn’t particularly hard. Rather, the hardest part of getting beeswax actually finding a nest where some can be extracted. Bee nests only have a minor chance of being generated within certain biomes. As a matter of fact, we have the statistical chances listed below:
- Plains (5% chance in all current editions)
- Sunflower plains (5% chance in all current editions)
- Flower forest (2% chance in Java Edition, 3% in Bedrock Edition)
- Forest (.2% in Java Edition, .035% in Bedrock Edition)
- Wooded hills (.2% in Java Edition, .035% in Bedrock Edition)
- Birch forest (.2% in Java Edition, .035% in Bedrock Edition)
- Tall birch forest (.2% in Java Edition, .035% in Bedrock Edition)
- Birch forest hills (.2% in Java Edition, .035% in Bedrock Edition)
- Tall birch hills (.2% in Java Edition, .035% in Bedrock Edition)
As you can see, it’s not the most generously doled out resource. You only have a couple particular ways it can be harvested. If you see one, don’t be so quick to start hacking away at it. First check to see if the nest is dripping with honey. If so, then it’s time to bust out the shears. Using your Shears will harvest 3 Honeycomb from a nest, but will anger nearby Bees. Lighting a campfire directly underneath the nest will placate the bees while you harvest.
Even better, if you happen to have any tool with the Silk Touch enchanting, you can extract the entire hive and place it closer to your base, making it much easier to have a source of Honeycomb. If not, then you should build a beehive with the first few Honeycomb you harvest, given it’s rarity. This will allow you to produce more Honeycomb as you need it.
