How to Create a Chimney in Minecraft

Minecraft’s main selling point for players is the ability to create whatever they want to make. However, one of the most important parts of building a house is making the chimney. However, with the way Minecraft works, you need a little finesse to make the chimney both functional and believable.

To make a chimney in Minecraft, the first thing you need to do is find a place in your house where it will fit. The corners of the house are a good choice, but anywhere is fine. Second, you’re going to want to make sure that there’s a hole in the roof of your house where the smoke will go, as when you place down the campfire, the smoke won’t rise up unless the chimney is there.

Once you’ve placed the hole in the roof of the house, head upwards onto the roof, and place four blocks on all sides of the hole. This isn’t the chimney, but it’s an important part of the building process. Once you’ve reached a height you like, place down four trapdoors of your choosing. If you’re going for the classic look, trapdoors made out of Spruce Wood or Dark Oak Wood look the best.

Make sure the trapdoors open vertically and cover the four sides of where the hole in the roof is, this is your chimney stack. Then, remove the blocks underneath the trapdoors, and they should still remain despite not being connected to anything. Continue building downwards, replacing each block with four Trapdoors until you make contact with the roof.

After that, it’s a matter of making the fireplace look nice and placing a campfire underneath the chimney. If the smoke doesn’t rise high enough to your liking, replacing the block underneath the campfire with a bale of hay will increase the height of the smokestack, expelling more smoke.

The chimney is purely cosmetic in Minecraft, however, it adds life to your house build, and gives you another place to cook your food.
