Minecraft has a propensity to line up parallel to our real world. Granted, Creepers and Zombies don’t exist in the real world, but Minecraft is a video game that stretches reality for fun. However, one of the things that Minecraft and Real Life share are Spiders, and while the spiders in real life aren’t massive like in Minecraft, they both make webs. But, what’s the point of the humble cobweb in Minecraft? And, how do you find them?
How to Get Cobwebs in Minecraft
Unfortunately, you can’t make cobwebs on your crafting table in Minecraft. However, you can harvest cobwebs as they generate naturally in the world. To find cobwebs, you’re going to want to seek out some of the natural world generations in the game. Cobwebs are usually found in Abandoned Villages, Mineshafts, Stronghold Libraries, Woodland Mansion Spider Spawners, and Igloo basements.
Finding them is one thing, but harvesting them is another. You can break them with any weapon, but you’ll only be rewarded with a string. So, you’re going to need a pair of Shears if you want to take the whole cobweb for yourself. Using shears is the fastest, but if you don’t have a pair of shears, or you don’t want to take them with you, silk touch will also give you the cobweb upon destruction. If you want to use a silk touch weapon to harvest cobwebs, you should use a sword, as they’re the fastest compared to every other weapon.
What are cobwebs useful for? Aside from decoration, they’re a perfect deterrent for enemy mobs who may invade your base. Every mob, aside from spiders, will be slowed when coming into contact with a cobweb. They can also be used as delays for Redstone contraptions. If you have an entity that needs to push a pressure plate at a specific time, cobwebs should do the trick to slow the entity’s descent.
Cobwebs are very useful for decoration, but they can also be used for many other things in Minecraft.
