Nothing brings back more nostalgia in the new Modern Warfare 2 than those 1v1 split-screen showdowns with your friends. Constantly telling each other not to screen peak while you quick scope it out to see who’s the better player. It’s just a core part of Call of Duty, that will never grow old. That’s why many players are wondering how to play split-screen in Modern Warfare 2. In this guide, we’ll show you how to set up and play split-screen, but do note that it’s restricted to certain modes.
How to Play Modern Warfare 2 2022 Split-Screen
To set up split-screen in Modern Warfare 2, you’ll need a second controller, and the player joining will also need to sign into their Activision account. This is something we recommend you make ahead of time because it will make the process much easier.
To enable split-screen, go to Multiplayer from the startup menu and look for the prompt in the upper right corner that tells you which button to press to activate the second controller (X on PlayStation, A on Xbox). The second player will then need to sign into their Activision account. Once done, you can enjoy split-screen together.
Keep in mind that there are some limitations to playing split-screen. For example, it’s only available on PlayStation and Xbox versions of the game, not PC. With that feature is restricted to private matches in multiplayer mode and doe’s not work for online multiplayer. Furthermore, it doesn’t work for Campaign or Co-Op mode. Meaning, split-screen is entirely limited to local private matches with up to four players.
To add to that, most of the game modes for split-screen multiplayer are available, with the exception of third-person Moshpit and Prisoner Rescue. Aside from that, you can still play all your favorites like Search & Destroy, Team Deathmatch, Free-For-All, and more. So, while you won’t be able to play online, you can still compete locally on the couch with friends to see who is the better player.
