Do you have a favorite film where artificial intelligence (AI) is good and not evil in films like The Matrix? After someone asked Reddit for examples of movies where the AI was a good guy or gal, these are the top-voted recommendations.

1. WALL-E (2008)

According to one Redditor, “WALL-E is the cutest sad-face robot in all of movie history.” The name is an acronym for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-class.

He is the last robot left on Earth that humans left hundreds of years ago because the planet is one giant piece of garbage. So WALL-E is left to clean Earth one piece of trash at a time.

He’s been doing it for 700 years, and in that time, he has become incredibly lonely. So when a probe, EVE, is sent by humans back to Earth (living on a gigantic self-sustaining ship) on a scanning mission, WALL-E falls in love and follows her back across the galaxy.

2. Moon (2009)

Astronaut Sam Bell has almost completed his three-year stint on the moon, working at a lunar mine. He is looking forward to going home when suddenly his health worsens drastically. He has headaches and hallucinations and is on the verge of death.

He meets what appears to be a younger version of himself. All this time, he had the company of GERTY, his computer (voiced by Kevin Spacey). Now he must solve the mystery before his company crew arrives.

3. Bicentennial Man (1999)

When the Martin family buys a new android to perform household duties, it develops emotions and desires to be human. Soon, he finds someone who can help him with his journey. Bicentennial Man is voted by many as an underrated Robin Williams film.

4. A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)

A robot boy, David, programmed to love, is adopted by a Cybertronics employee and his wife. He gradually becomes their child, but some unexpected circumstances make him question his existence. He embarks on a journey to find out where he truly belongs.

5. Short Circuit (1986)

The plot centers upon an experimental military robot called Number 5. He is struck by lightning and gains a human-like consciousness, prompting him to escape its facility to learn more about the world before his creators reprogram his mind.

6. Her (2013)

Joaquin Phoenix plays Theodore, a sensitive and soulful man who writes personal letters for other people for a living. When his marriage ends, he is left heartbroken and finds solace in a new operating system called Samantha.

Samantha is an A.I. with a bright voice and a playful personality. He instantly becomes friends with her, but the relationship deepens, and he falls in love.

7. Interstellar (2014)

When the no longer remains inhabitable, the government asks an ex-NASA pilot to lead a team of researchers to find a new planet. A unique A.I. robot named TARS accompanies them. It’s very talented and is also able to pilot their ship.

8. Big Hero 6 (2014)

Hiro is a brilliant kid whose brother dies. To avenge his brother’s death, he upgrades his brother’s robot, Baymax. Then he joins forces with friends and takes on a supervillain.

9. Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

Blade Runner 2049 follows an officer in the LA Police Department who discovers a potentially chaotic secret, which leads him to search for a former blade runner who has been missing for decades.

10. Forbidden Planet (1956)

Forbidden Planet follows a spacecraft traveling to a distant planet to see the fate of the scientists sent there earlier. Unfortunately, when they arrive, only two people are alive. Robby the Robot is the A.I. shown in the movie. He displays a distinct personality and is an integral supporting character.
