New World Attributes Guide - All Stat Effects and Bonuses

As you level up through New World, you’re going to gain attribute points. These are to be spread out through your five base attributes: Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Focus, and Constitution. These stats are critical for any build, and having a good understanding of what each of them does will be important. But, the game isn’t too quick to hold your hand about this stuff. So, during your leveling journey, which stats should you focus on?

New World Attributes – Stat Effects and Bonuses

New World Attributes - Stat Effects and Bonuses

The five attributes of New World all are important for different builds. Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence are all critical damage statistics. Focus is important to help mana casters and healers keep up, as it offers small bonuses for casters who invest in it. Constitution is the health stat, and is critical for tanks and bruisers. Thankfully, this game has a pretty kind Attribute Respec system, so feel free to experiment!

For a more detailed overview of the five attributes, see below.

Strength

Strength is the best melee damage item, and applies to all melee items except for the Rapier and Gauntlet. If you’re in melee, you’re going to want to invest in a bit of strength. Even if you’re running the Rapier, the bonuses to general damage and damage against targets under Crowd Control are massive.

  • Greatly improve the damage of War Hammers and Great Axes.
  • Slightly improve the damage of Swords, Hatchets, and Spears.
  • 50: +15% damage to melee lights, +10% mining speed
  • 100: +20% damage to melee heavies, +20 encumbrance
  • 150: +50% stamina damage from melee combat, -10% mined item weight
  • 200: +20% damage on stunned, slowed, or rooted enemies, +10% mining speed
  • 250: Melee attacks no longer stop stamina regeneration, +10% mining output
  • 300: You cannot be staggered out of melee weapon attacks, 25% chance to one-shot ore nodes.

Dexterity

If you’re not using magic, but are hitting enemies from afar, Dexterity is your statistic. Bows and Muskets both live and die off of Dexterity. If you’re not using Dex, you’ll still want it to buff your Critical hit rate and grant you some awesome dodge perks!

  • Greatly improve the damage of ranged weapons and rapiers.
  • Slightly improve damage of Swords, Spears, and Hatchets.
  • 50: +10% critical hit rate, +10 skinning speed
  • 100: +5% piercing damage, +20% haste for 3 seconds after skinning
  • 150: Dodging costs 10 less stamina, -10% decrease in weight of skinned items
  • 200: +20% bonus backstab and headshot damage, +10% skinning speed
  • 250: +30% bonus critical hit damage on stunned, slowed, or rooted enemies, +10% skinning output
  • 300: 15% ammo return chance, guarantee a critical hit after dodge rolling

Intelligence

New World Attributes

Intelligence is a caster’s best friend. Because it improves fire staff and ice gauntlet damage, you’ll want it if your goal is to rain massive circles of death upon your opponents. All of its stats are here to improve magic. If you don’t wish to touch magic in New World, Intelligence is safe to ignore.

  • Greatly improve fire staff and ice gauntlet damage.
  • Slightly improve rapier and musket damage.
  • Slightly improve damage of magical weapon perks.
  • 50: +10% damage to magic attacks, +10% harvest speed
  • 100: +20% crit damage, 5% chance to gain 1 azoth when harvesting
  • 150: +20% elemental damage, -10% harvested item weight
  • 200: Dodging grants 10 mana, +10% harvest speed
  • 250: +30% time spell duration, +10% harvest output
  • 300: +30% damage on first hit on full health target, -10% Azoth price for travel

Focus

Focus is largely unimportant in New World. If you use a Life Staff, this is your stat. Otherwise, it gives marginal benefits every 50 points. A support caster might want this quite a bit. But, even Mages don’t need to invest too much into this.

  • Greatly improve damage of the Life Staff.
  • 50: +10% mana regen, +10% fishing line tension
  • 100: +20 max mana, +10% salvage output
  • 150: +20% heal power, -10% fishing item rate
  • 200: +20% duration on your buffs, +10% fishing line tension
  • 250: +30 mana per kill, +10% fish size
  • 300: Gain 200% mana regen when mana hits 0 once per 60 seconds, 10% cooldown reduction for Inn fast travel

Constitution

If you want to take a hit, Constitution is your best friend. It increases your health, and will give you big durability upgrades every 50 levels. All characters – but especially melee ones – should invest a bit into Constitution.

  • Improves your health by an amount between 25 to 21 max health, based on your constitution.
  • 50: 20% health consumable efficiency, +10% logging speed
  • 100: +10% physical armor to HP, -10% tool durability loss
  • 150: 20% less crit damage reduction, -10% logging item weight
  • 200: +20% increase to armor, +10% logging speed
  • 250: 80% damage reduction at full health, +10% logging output
  • 300: +30% duration of stun, slow, and root spells, 25% chance to one-shot a tree
