Locking items functionality or lack there of was a big deal during the beta days of New World. There were many complaints of players accidentally salvaging a valuable item, and there was no way of locking an item to prevent it from being salvaged. Other RPGs have dealt with this issue a different way, but in New World it is pretty unique.
How To Lock Item – New World
Locking an item can be done in the player’s inventory. In fact, the developers have made sure that this feature is easily accessible and obvious that it does exist.
To lock an item in New World, try the following:
- Open up your Inventory.
- Hover over the item you want to lock.
- Right-click it, and the hit “Lock”.
What does LOCKING an item do? Once an item ha been locked from a player’s inventory, the item won’t be able to be salvaged even if you click salvage accidentally. Plus, a lock icon appears on the item, making it easily distinguishable compared to other items. The item lock will be removed when sold, traded, or dropped.
Unfortunately, the locking mechanic in New World at the time of writing, only prevents the item from being salvaged. In other words, locked items can be can be sold at Traders.
It doesn’t appear to be any backlash on this topic, but some players have mentioned previously that the ability to fully lock an item (including Trader sales) would be well received.
However, there isn’t anything official as of this moment, mentioning a change to this mechanic, or the implementation of other locking mechanisms for items in New World.
That said, the players’ guess is as good as anyone’s. We’ll have to wait and see how development will unfold in terms of inventory management.
