The holiday season is upon us, and many people will be getting new gaming systems this fall. The holiday season also means that most people will be home from work, giving them plenty of time to catch up on their favorite titles.
And obviously, users new and old will want to download and play the latest titles. But so many people logging onto their new systems or logging in at odd hours means that servers can easily get overloaded. Nintendo recently warned users that it might now be so easy to play their games over the holidays.
The company’s Japanese customer service account tweeted recently, “This weekend, access will be concentrated on the server of #Nintendo Account, and it is expected that Nintendo Account will not be created immediately. If you are planning to use the Nintendo Switch family for the first time, we recommend that you create it in advance.”
The message also urged players to, if possible, create an account before Christmas day. There is a link attached so players can do so.
Nintendo had issues with their servers last year. The surge of new users caused the company’s eShop to close down on Christmas day last year. This meant that users hoping to download a new game on that day couldn’t do so.
As of now, Nintendo expects the problems to primarily affect users who were creating an account for the first time. So anyone who already owns and will want to play a Switch should plan accordingly.
