An update on the Steam Client beta indicates that support for the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con is coming to the Steam platform.

Not much was made available in terms of patch notes. Still, we compiled the full list of update notes below:

The Steam Client Beta has been updated with the following changes:

Steam Input

– Added support for Nintendo Joy-Con controllers, both individually as a mini-gamepad and combined into pairs

– Improved support for the Nintendo Online classic controllers

With this update, all three console controllers will be usable on Steam. The Nintendo Switch Joy-Con joins the PS5 DualSense controller and the Xbox Series X|S controllers. This allows for more freedom for gamers to utilize the controllers they are most comfortable with.

I imagine there is some appeal to using the Joy-Con controllers when playing any old-school retro game. Holding a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con like an NES controller is usually the ideal way to play certain retro-style games.

Nintendo is notorious for being tight-lipped about game releases, so I imagine we’ll see more games coming beyond what we already know. Worst-case scenario, if you’re itching to use your Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers, now you can do it on Steam!
