The Switch is one of the best Nintendo consoles, yet there’s still room for improvement, and we think some highly desired Nintendo Switch Ports are just what the doctor ordered.
From GameCube classics to beloved Nintendo classics and everything in between, we’ll review some of the Nintendo games we hope to see ported to the Switch console. While there are some games we thankfully don’t have to include on this list (looking at you, Persona), there are still some games we’re waiting for.
The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker HD
Bringing the Windwaker to HD gave the game new life. It’s a beautiful, definitive version of the GameCube classic, and it makes sense to appear on the Nintendo Switch.
With the 35th anniversary of the franchise taking place last year, many fans were miffed that it didn’t appear for the Switch console, making it an easy inclusion to kickstart our list of most desired Nintendo Switch ports.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Speaking of the Zelda franchise, Twilight Princess makes as much sense to appear on the Switch. Like Windwaker, it saw an HD release on the Wii U. Sadly, nobody bought that system.
What do you say, Nintendo? Let us play some Zelda on one of your best-selling consoles. We want to play it. You know we want to play it. What are we waiting for?
Donkey Kong 64
In reality, Donkey Kong 64 as a Nintendo Switch port is as close to impossible as you can imagine. The game’s property rights are incredibly muddled up between various companies since Microsoft now owns developer Rare. Nintendo and Microsoft tend to get along, so never say never!
Donkey Kong 64 is a fantastic game that desperately needs some quality-of-life additions. The massive and sprawling collect-a-thon platformer is impressive in scope and scale. We’d love a chance to experience it again.
Whether it’s a formal remake or simply a part of the Nintendo 64 collection, Donkey Kong 64 is one of our most wanted Nintendo Switch ports.
F-Zero GX
Although Nintendo owns the rights to F-Zero, we’re more likely to see a Switch port of Donkey Kong 64 than F-Zero GX.
It’s a shame because the game is gorgeous, the racing is challenging, and the gameplay is highly addictive. The large-scale races would be perfect for online multiplayer, too. Racing against 12 players in Mario Kart is already chaos. Just imagine what is possible from F-Zero.
Nintendo has some hesitation about investing in a new entry in the series. Why not test the water by porting the GameCube release?
Metroid Prime Trilogy
It’s been 84 years since Metroid Prime 4 was announced.
Not really, but it sure feels that way, doesn’t it?
We’re sadly not expecting to see Metroid Prime 4 anytime soon. Why not help tide things over with Metroid Prime Trilogy? A port could result in the classic games reaching a new audience as well as (hopefully) receiving an HD upgrade for the game’s visuals.
The Metroid Prime Trilogy are some of the best games to ever appear on a Nintendo console and some of the best in the Metroid series.
GoldenEye 007
Are we likely to ever see GoldenEye 007 again? Actually, according to rumors, we just might. This makes it an easy addition to our list of most wanted Nintendo Switch ports.
It hasn’t necessarily aged well, but GoldenEye 007 is a breakthrough console first-person shooter. Between the brilliant campaign that mirrors the movie’s events to the addicting multiplayer action, many gamers have fond memories of the Nintendo 64 game.
Being able to play the game on Nintendo Switch would spark a return to all-night gaming sessions. We might not be able to hang as well as we used to, but we’d love to try.
Inscryption
The card-based rogue-like horror game seems perfect for the Nintendo Switch.
It’s somewhat surprising that the indie deck builder isn’t already on the Switch. Nintendo’s console has been a perfect match for independent games in this generation. The style, length, and scope of Inscryption all seem ideal for the Switch.
Rumors suggest that it’s only a matter of time before the game comes to Nintendo’s console. We’ve seen a delay with previous independent games coming to Switch, and we wouldn’t be surprised that it’s a matter of when and not if for Inscryption.
