Obsidian founder Feargus Urquhart recently expressed interest in making a new Fallout game.
The Fallout franchise recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. Urquhart spoke with DualShockers to help commemorate that anniversary and revealed some interesting details about the possibility of Obsidian working on a new game in the series.
“Of course, if we ever got the opportunity to make another Fallout game, we’d make it,” he said. “There’s not even a question of whether or not we would do it, it’s just ‘Will the opportunity arise?’ I hung around at Interplay for probably an extra year because I wanted to work on Fallout more. I love Fallout.”
The Obsidian Founder is no stranger to the Fallout franchise. His studio developed Fallout: New Vegas, regarded as one of the best Fallout games ever made. The decision by Bethesda to allow Obisidian to handle the follow-up to Fallout 3 was a fantastic decision.
Thanks to the popularity of New Vegas, many have been wondering if Obsidian would be working on the franchise again. These comments grew louder after Microsoft acquired Bethesda studios.
The most recent entry in the Fallout series is Fallout 76. It had a rocky launch, making people wonder if we’d ever see a Fallout 5. Todd Howard vows that when we do see the next Fallout game, it will blow us away. Would Obsidian work on it?
The Obsidian Founder isn’t sure, but he’d jump on the opportunity if given a chance.
“At some point we’ll start looking into what those next games are going to be,” he mentions, “and I would be surprised if Fallout is not on that list. If we were to do Fallout, it has to tie in with what Bethesda is doing with Fallout and a lot of other things, but I would always personally say my hope is that before I ride off into the sunset, I’d love to make another Fallout game.”
