Outer Wilds Meditate | What Does it Do?

Outer Wilds Meditate

Outer Wilds is an award-winning space exploration game released in 2019 by Mobius Digital. It can be frustrating when you’re just starting out, but you’ll definitely come to love it if you manage to get past the initial learning curve. To help you get started on the right foot, we put together this little guide that will teach you how to meditate in Outer Wilds. Trust us, this simple gameplay mechanic will make things a lot easier and more enjoyable.

What Does Meditation Do in Outer Wilds?

What Does Meditation Do in Outer Wilds?

You can learn how to meditate in Outer Wilds by speaking with Gabbro, a Hearthian you’ll encounter on Giant’s Deep. Ideally, you’ll want to speak with Gabbro after having died at least once. Doing so will trigger a conversation where you get to learn more about time loops. After experiencing at least three time loops and selecting a specific dialogue option, Gabbro will teach you how to meditate. The dialog option you need to choose is “how do you stay so calm in the face of repeated impending death?”

Outer Wilds is a game about exploring a Solar System trapped in an endless time loop. The loop occurs every 22 minutes and is a core part of the gameplay. In many cases, it feels like 22 minutes is not enough time to explore as much as you would like to between resets. If you happen to get stuck, however, 22 minutes feels like an eternity.

Normally, you would have to either quit to the title screen and lose your progress or kill yourself in order to end the loop early. Neither of those options is particularly appealing, but luckily, there’s a third one. After learning how to meditate, you’ll gain the ability to reset the loop at will without any drawbacks.

It’s worth noting that the current loop will immediately end upon learning the ability. If you still have things to do, make sure to select the reply “nah, I’m good” when Gabbro offers to teach you how to meditate. Don’t worry, you can come back later and learn it then.

Once you unlock the ability, you’ll be able to use it at any time by pausing the game and selecting the “meditate until next loop” option.
