Overwatch 2 - Is it Split-Screen

Overwatch 2 is will release as two separate packages: the free-to-play online PvP mode, and then also its PvE story and hero missions, which are coming at a later date. Regardless, many players are wondering if the free-to-play PvP multiplayer will be split-screen. If not, then what about the PvE story and hero missions? Well we’ve got the answer to whether either of those features split-screen or not, just below, so read on to find out.

Is Overwatch 2 Split-Screen?

Is Overwatch 2 Split-Screen?

Unfortunately, Overwatch 2 will not be a co-op split-screen experience. We know this to be true for its free-to-play PvP multiplayer, but the same can’t be said for its PvE story and hero missions.

The original Overwatch, being an entirely multiplayer-focused game, didn’t include split-screen across any of its game modes. And with Blizzard making no comment on whether Overwatch 2 will have the feature, it’s safe to assume they’ve entirely disregarded it for PvP multiplayer. However, given that the sequel will have its own dedicated PvE version, including split-screen as an option would be fitting.

These are four-player online co-op missions that aim to delve into the storyline and the subplots of the characters. We already know that this will be available as an online co-op multiplayer game, but what about local co-op split-screen?

PvE story and hero missions will drop separately from the free-to-play multiplayer, sometime in 2023. There is no set release date, nor is it known if these narrative modes will be paid or free. However, given the extended timeline, there is a possibility that Blizzard may include split-screen for this version, and here’s why.

Split-screen is common in almost every action-adventure campaign, and it is also typical in FPS game campaigns in general. And, given that Overwatch 2’s PvE mode is precisely that, adding the feature feels entirely appropriate. Furthermore, it’s capped at four players, making a four-player split-screen an ideal fit. Given this and the extended timetable, Blizzard may be considering implementing split-screen into this edition.

It most definitely seems like a perfect fit that’s for sure. However, that’s just speculation as we’ll just have to wait and see whether it happens. But, it’s with all that in mind, it’s definitely not out of the realm of possibilities.
