Does Phantasy Star Online 2 Have Cross-Platform Play?

Phantasy Star Online 2 Cross-Platform Play

Phantasy Star Online 2 has launched its global server and is available on PC and Xbox One, but does it have cross-platform play? Being an MMORPG, this is a game that is better enjoyed when played with friends. Since each person has their preferences, and they might use different game systems, separating the community is never a good thing for such a social game.

Does Phantasy Star Online 2 Have Cross-Play?

Phantasy Star Online 2 Cross-Platform Play

Yes, Phantasy Star Online 2 does support cross-platform play between Xbox One and PC. Although the number of platforms on which the game can be played is not as numerous as it is for the Japanese servers, players from all over can play together across the two different platforms.

Another feature available for this new release is the cross-progression. So if you own an Xbox One, you can play on any PC using the same account and pick up where you left off. Same goes to PC gamers who want to hop on an Xbox. However, in order to make use of this feature, players need an Xbox Live account. This account is already required to play on the Xbox One, but not to play on PC.

The global server is not available on as many platforms as the Japanese one,  but its cross-platform play is more inclusive. It is not segregated like the original server, where console players could never interact with those on different systems. Luckily, the global version allows all players, even those not using Xbox Live, to play together. Unfortunately, the accounts are not cross-server. Players who have characters on the Japanese server will have to start over if they decide to play on the global one.

It would be a dream come true to see the global server on all platforms for many, but we are not there yet. Either way, the game has plenty to be enjoyed as is.
