Xbox and Playstation have been locked in a battle over which company has the best gaming console for several years now. Of course, much of this comes down to the quality of the games Microsoft and Sony release. But part of the competition is also in the innovation delivered by each company.
And Microsoft came up with a massive winner when they created their Game Pass product. Game Pass is a subscription service that gives gamers access to a library of over 100 games. And each month, players eagerly await the announcement of which games will be added to the package.

Microsoft has noted that the service wasn’t hugely profitable at first but helped draw massive attention to their company. Game Pass hit 18 million subscribers last January.
Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, is aware of the rumors that Sony is working on its own subscription service. He recently told IGN:
“I don’t mean it to sound like we’ve got it all figured out, but I think the right answer is allowing your customers to play the games they wanna play, where they wanna play them and giving them choice about how they build their library and being transparent with them about what our plans are in terms of our PC initiatives and our cross-gen initiatives and other things. So when I hear others doing things like Game Pass or coming to PC, it makes sense to me because I think that’s the right answer.”
According to PC Gamer, Sony is working on a package that would combine both its Playstation Plus and Playstation Now packages into a single offering. The new service will reportedly be called Spartacus.
Like Game Pass, it will be broken down into tiers with gamers being able to pay extra for additional perks. The service is expected to be released in Spring of 2022.
