As we hit the month of June, the time of the year normally reserved for E3, we begin to get deep looks at upcoming holiday releases. Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are one of those releases.
Nintendo has released a three-minute trailer that showcases the open world of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet on the Pokémon YouTube channel.
The still unnamed region features a vast open world filled with everything we know and love about Pokémon. Game Freak seems to have taken inspiration from Pokémon Legends: Arceus when it comes to worldbuilding. This is nothing but good news! We liked the open world aspect of Arceus and wished that would translate to the main games. Environments and regions seem varied in Scarlet and Violet, but that always helpful Pokécenter is waiting for you.
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will retain the core gameplay mechanics of the franchise. Whereas Arceus was more of a survival game that happened to take place in the Pokémon universe, Scarlet and Violet are more mainstream. This makes sense; they are officially the ninth generation of Pokémon games.
Despite the three minute trailer, there’s still a ton of information we don’t know. We learned via a press release that multiplayer gaming will be a part of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. While the franchise has seen multiplayer since day one, Scarlet and Violet introduce the ability to explore alongside your friends.
As the summer months roll on, expect more details to follow. Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will release globally on Friday, November 18th, 2022.
