Former Resident Evil Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi Joins Netease

Hiroyuki Kobayashi, best known at Capcom for his role as a Producer for the Resident Evil series, is leaving the company. Kobayashi announced on Twitter that he had joined NetEase.

“Today, Aug 12th, is my 50th birthday,” the statement begins. “As such, I would like to share something very special with everyone: After serving 27 years with gratitude, I have departed from Capcom on March 31st, 2022, and will be officially joining NetEase Games as a producer. Detail plans will be shared later so please stay tuned. I will strive to continuously create more enjoyable entertainment experiences for everyone at this new company, in this new era. Thank you for the continued support.”

Hiroyuki Kobayashi began his tenure at Capcom as a programmer for Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2. He then oversaw work on future Resident Evil games as a Producer, including Code: Veronica X, Zero, the 2022 Resident Evil remake, and Resident Evil 4.

Kobayashi is an Executive Producer for Resident Evil 6 and Dragon’s Dogma. His last credited work at Capcom is 2018’s Mega Man 11, where he was also an Executive Producer.

It is currently unknown what he is working on for NetEase Games. When the time is right, either the company or Kobayashi himself will make an announcement.

NetEase is a Chinese company that helps develop and operate PC and mobile games. They are best known for operating Blizzard games in China, including World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, and Overwatch. NetEase also co-developed Diablo Immortal, which recently broke $100 million in total revenue before its Chinese launch, alongside Blizzard.
