Teyon has gone on quite the journey over the last few years. First infamous for Rambo: The Video Game, only to redeem themselves with Terminator: Resistance. Some rough DLC aside, Terminator won Teyon fans over. Now they’re onto their most ambitious game yet: a sandbox FPS RoboCop remake. Unlike the ill-fated 2010’s film remake, RoboCop: Rogue City is nostalgically minded. Teyon aims to capture the themes and aesthetics of the original trilogy as one continuous story.
A Crime Wave Only Robocop Can Stop
While we’ve known the pitch of RoboCop: Rogue City, it’s truly jaw dropping to see it in action. Teyon has gone all outfor their latest title. Better animations, gorgeous art direction, and quite possibly the best rendering of Peter Weller’s face since Mortal Kombat 11. Alex Murphy has never looked so life-like in a game. Everything sings with the 80’s sci-fi dystopia fans love, paired solid vocal deliveries and a somber yet intimidating musical track. It all screams RoboCop to the core.
Interestingly, we don’t see the titular hero wielding other weapons besides his trusty sidearm. However, melee combat and environmental takedowns are on display, such as dropping crates on a hostile ED-209. Just as remarkable is the wealth of platforms Teyon is targeting for release: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Epic Game Store, and Nintendo Switch. How a game of this fidelity, built with current-gen consoles in mind, will handle on Switch is a giant question mark.
I suppose we’ll know soon enough, with a set release date for June 2023. In less than a year, players can finally inhabit the boots of Alex Murphy once more. Hopefully this goes far better than his last FPS outing, all the way back on the original Xbox.
