When Konami parted ways with Hideo Kojima, it held on to his most prized creations. Now, the company is seeking to revive the franchise. The Silent Hill series is beloved in the horror gaming community, and Silent Hill 2 was just approved for a remake. As one of the oldest titles in the series, it’s been out of the spotlight for some time. Now we’ve learned that the game will also be demanding a lot from players’ PCs. While no dates are confirmed for release yet, we at least know how much grunt this game will require.
Silent Hill 2 Remake And Required Specs
In 1999, the world was introduced to the cursed town of Silent Hill. Naturally, the destination proved popular enough to warrant Silent Hill 2 in 2001. Considered one of the best in the series, Silent Hill 2 was confirmed for a remake by Konami during the Silent Hill Transmission this week. While the series itself has expanded, this is the first time that an individual game will be getting such prominent treatment.
Silent Hill 2 is being remade to leverage the most out of modern hardware. In fact, it seems like the average player may have trouble just trying to run it. According to the game’s Steam store listing, the minimum required system specs are as follows:
- Intel Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 3 3300X CPU
- 12GB RAM
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 or AMD Radeon RX 5700
- 50GB storage
These are the bare figures to reach 1080@30fps with medium settings. The requirements swell to an Intel Core i7-8700K/Ryzen 5 3600X and a GeForce 2080RTX/Radeon 6800XT to hit 1080p@60fps.
Silent Hill 2 is frequently praised for its story, atmosphere, and realistic horror gameplay. So it’s surprising that Konami has let it sit on the shelf for so long. With the remake announced, the company is polishing off one of its biggest fan-favorite series. Here’s to hoping PC players can at least meet the minimum system requirements.
