2022 is going to be a busy year for Sonic the Hedgehog. Following the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 this month, we’ve also got Sonic Frontiers in the winter to propel the blue blur into an open-world adventure. One underrepresented Sonic release this year is Sonic Origins. Announced at the Sonic anniversary event in late 2021, we’ve heard nothing on this HD remaster collection since — until today, that is.
Sonic Origins Rated By Korean Certification Board
After more than six months of radio silence, today brought the latest news on Sonic Origins. It’s been quiet since the October 2021 reveal, until a leak from the Korean certification board posted on April 18. It confirmed that the game will be appropriate for all audiences. It has an A certificate from CERO, which also operates in Japan.
However, details from boards like the ESRB and PEGI don’t appear on the page just yet. Despite that, this tidbit of information confirms that the game still exists, and seems to be edging towards a release. There’s usually only a gap of a few months between a game being rated, and the game ultimately coming out. Especially given Sonic Frontiers will dominate the franchise later this year, the chances are SEGA wants it out sooner rather than later.
In other words, this news only confirms that we’re nearer to a release. Sadly, it doesn’t provide key insight into a release date; just confirmation that it’s still in the works. The collection is set to include the 1991 original, 1992’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2, 1994’s Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD from 1993. It’s not the first time these games have been remastered, though they should be the best versions yet. There’s no news on supported platforms, either. Still, we expect to see them on both previous- and current-gen consoles, as well as PC. Considering the age of the games, a Nintendo Switch version is also quite likely.
