Sony’s PlayStation 5 pulled off a big win in September 2021, surpassing Nintendo Switch sales. The September 2021 US NPD hardware sales charts show the system winning in terms of unit sales and earned revenue.

Not only did the PS4 surpass Nintendo Switch sales, it did so at a time when September sales jumped by 49% compared to the same period last year. Sales for the month within the industry reached $3.4 billion.

Mat Piscatella also posted the top video game sales across all platforms.

While Nintendo has so far sold more total console units in 2021, Sony’s PS5 leads the market in terms of revenue. The PS5 is more expensive than the Nintendo Switch and more expensive to produce, so revenue numbers are not necessarily the best metric in this case.
