One of the most anticipated Switch games of 2022 is almost here. Nintendo announced this morning via press release that Splatoon 3 will release for Nintendo Switch on September 9th. A trailer highlighting gameplay and the release date was also made available.

One of the best Nintendo multiplayer franchises of all time, Splatoon 3 brings the series to Nintendo Switch. The newest installment still features the same 4v4 Turf War fans know and love. A combination of new and returning multiplayer stages will be featured in the title.

The trailer above features a match taking place on the Eeltail Alley map. It also includes gameplay of the stringer, a new bow weapon that allows players to shoot ink both sideways and vertically.

A key feature in Splatoon 3 is the new single-player campaign. You’ll be tasked with joining Agent 3 as you fight against the Octarians. Players will explode Alterna and the Fuzzy Ooze.

The co-op Salm Run mode also returns, allowing players to fend off waves of enemies and larger-than-life Salmonid bosses.

Nintendo is making the Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion DLC available for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members to celebrate the news. Those already subscribing to the Online service can enjoy the Octo Expansion DLC at no additional charge.

With the delay of Breath of the Wild 2 until 2023, Splatoon 3 is one of the known marquee 2022 titles for Nintendo Switch. People were speculating that Nintendo’s moving up of the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 release date would come alongside a Splatoon 3 delay. As it turns out, Splatoon is just taking Xenoblade’s former spot on the release schedule.

All that remains on the Q3-Q4 calendar for Nintendo now are Splatoon 3, Bayonetta 3, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Plus Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp, whenever that launches. It’s expected we’ll get more Nintendo, and possibly even Splatoon related, around the time E3 was supposed to occur. As of now, there are no Nintendo plans during the Jeff Grubb Game Mess 2022.
