Stardew Valley Fiddlehead Fern | Where to Find

Stardew Valley Fiddlehead Fern

Stardew Valley allows players to be self-sufficient by giving them the opportunity to grow their own crops. But, just like in the real world, certain fruits and vegetables aren’t suitable for farming. This means you’ll need to go out into the wild if you want to get your hands on them. Such is the case with Fiddlehead Fern, a rare vegetable that can only be obtained via foraging. Keep reading to find out where you can find this elusive plant.

Where to Find Fiddlehead Fern in Stardew Valley

Where to Find Fiddlehead Fern in Stardew Valley

There are currently only four ways of acquiring Fiddlehead Fern, three of which involve foraging. You can get them in the Secret Woods, Skull Cavern, Ginger Island Jungle, or from the Travelling Merchant. Let’s go over them one by one.

Secret Woods

The Secret Woods is an area found in the northwest of Cindersap Forest that can be unlocked after acquiring a Steel Axe. You have a 78% chance of finding Fiddlehead Fern in this area, however, the plant only shows up during Summer. If you need Fiddlehead Fern during any other season, you’ll need to check out the other two locations listed below.

Skull Cavern

The Skull Cavern can be found in the northwestern area of the Desert and requires a Skull Key to unlock. You can find the fern deep in this cavern but there’s a catch – it only shows up on Prehistoric floors. Unfortunately, you may have a difficult time finding one of these floors because they tend to be very rare.

Ginger Island Jungle

Visiting the Ginger Island jungle might be the easiest way of acquiring Fiddlehead Ferns. The plants grow here all year round and there are no caveats to worry about. Simply wander around the area and keep an eye out and you should run into some ferns sooner or later.

Travelling Merchant

Stardew Valley also lets you buy Fiddlehead Fern from the Travelling Merchant for anywhere between 270 and 1,000 Gold. But once again there’s a catch. The merchant only shows up on Fridays and Sundays in Cindersap Forest. In addition, the vendor doesn’t always have the plant in stock, so you may need to visit her several times before you’ll get the chance to buy it.

Once you have some Fiddlehead Fern you can pickle it, turn it into juice, or simply sell it raw. The plant is also needed for the Chef’s Bundle and Wild Medicine Bundle, as well as the Fiddlehead Risotto recipe.
