Stardew Valley is one of the best indie games to come out in the last decade. Between the colorful NPCs and the constantly changing world, this farming simulator is one that players can’t help falling in love with. However, the game still has a few well-kept secrets that many fans may not know. One of the best examples is Squid Kid.
This unique enemy is a bit difficult to locate, for the Squids aren’t surface-level threats. It takes some courage and explorative determination to find your first one, which pretty much equals you being prepared for combat. It’s a dangerous quest ahead, so let’s get grooving as we delve beyond the Valley to find out what the Squid Kids are.
What is the Squid Kid in Stardew Valley?
Squid Kid, not to be confused with the characters from Splatoon, is a creature that can be found within the Mines in Stardew Valley. These creatures are most commonly found between levels 80-120 of the Mines and are best known as the little pink balls with faces on them. Specifically speaking, you’ll be venturing through floors 81-119 for the enemy in question to appear.
Squid Kids are quick-moving enemies that can shoot fireballs that bounce off walls. However, if you’re thinking they look hard to defeat, you might be surprised by the answer.
Truth be told, the Squid Kid enemy is one of the easiest creatures to defeat in the game. In fact, they can be defeated with any weapon in one hit, as they have a base HP of just one.
The fireballs shot from the Squid Kid can be put out in one hit as well — however, it will pack a punch if it hits you. To avoid this, the best strategy to use against them would be to strike before they do, assuring easy XP and allowing you to claim any treasures that drop. Just be mindful of the ricocheting fireball attacks that can come back to sting you.
Squid Kids give the player 15 XP upon defeat and have a strong chance of dropping Solar Essence. Additionally, they have rare chances of dropping Squid Ink, Bombs, Mega Bombs, Dwarf Scrolls 3 and 4, and Gold Bars.
Expert Tip
It’s also worth noting that if you reach the bottom of Mines, the Squid Kids will have super rare drops of Diamond and Prismatic Shards. Remember, these shards are rare resources that can be used for a variety of different means in the Valley, including a donation to the Museum, acquisition of the Galaxy Sword, and prismatic clothing that’s tailored through a Sewing Machine.
While Stardew Valley Squid Kids can be hard to come by, they can be easily beaten despite how deep in the Mines they appear… but they shouldn’t be overlooked. So, once you finish your daily chores on the farm, it’s time to go hunting in the Mines.
Who Is The Dangerous Squid Kid?
The trouble with our lovely Squids doesn’t end here, however. Another threat lurks within the Mines, though it’s the Dangerous variant that we need to be concerned about. We’re referring to the smooth-sailing Squid Kid (dangerous), a stronger equivalent to the pink foe in question here. You can start encountering this sunshine-looking ball of orange-yellow fury with sunglasses by exploring after reaching the bottom of the Mines.
There are three ways that you can go about locating them. You either activate the Shrine of Challenge with Mr. Qi or play through the Danger In The Deep Quest Special Order quest. The third option relies on the Skull Cavern, where the dangerous Squid Kids can appear during the Skull Cavern Invasion Special Order quest, all from Mr. Qi. These are the only known locations for the Squid Kids to come into play for Stardew Valley.
Defeating the dangerous counterpart to the tiny enemies is a similar process. Watch as they move about the area in swift action, hovering over rocks as they deliver four fireballs in your direction. These will also bounce off the wall, so be mindful of your surroundings.
Just don’t expect to wipe them out with one hit as opposed to the weak Squid Kids from the Mines. A dangerous Squid Kid’s HP is set at 250, which might encourage you to change up your combative approaches as you dive deeper into the underground area. You can anticipate obtaining the same loot from both the Squid Kid and its dangerous bigger brother.
