In Stardew Valley, players can engage in a number of activities to pass the time on the farm, like fishing! Not only does it help the day go by, but it can also be a great source of income, as the player can sell whatever they catch. That being said, in this guide, we will show you where to catch the Sturgeon fish in Stardew Valley.
This benthic feeder is known for having a steaming population with endless individuals. Much like the other fish in the Valley, these fish can be caught at a specific location during certain periods and seasons. It’s time to gather some bait as we step outside of the Farmhouse in search of some Sturgeons.
Where to Catch Sturgeon in Stardew Valley
You can catch Sturgeon in Stardew Valley at the Mountain Lake during both the Summer and Winter seasons from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. It is also very common to find it on rainy Summer days, but not Winter rainy days.
You should also note that the fish can also appear randomly in Krobus’ shop for 200g on Wednesdays, so it might be a good idea to visit his shop every so often. Furthermore, the Traveling Cart can potentially sell the fish for 600-1,000g if it’s available.
Expert Tip
With this in mind, during the Winter, we recommend only attempting to catch the fish when it is not raining, as the rain will make the already low drop percentage of 16% to 11% worse.
These are the only two locations where you’ll be able to catch the Sturgeon. When you finally manage to catch one, we’ve detailed some information below on how much they’re worth and everything you can do with them.

But if you don’t want to sell your hard-earned Sturgeon, you can use it to make a few items or present it as a gift for Willy, who runs the Fish Shop. You should also note that Willy is the only person who will love the gift, as the majority of the other villagers will either dislike it or are neutral to the gift. However, the fish has a couple of other uses, which can be seen below.
Here are the recipes that require a fish:
- Maki Roll – with Seaweed (x1) and Rice (x1)
- Quality Fertilizer – with Sap (x2)
- Sashimi
- Lake Fish Bundle
- Fishing Vest via Sewing Machine
The Lake Fish Bundle is a part of the Fish Tank family of Fish Bundles. You will also need a Largemouth Bass, Carp, and Bullhead to receive a Dressed Spinner.
How to Get Roe from a Sturgeon
In addition to bartering and cooking with the fish in question, you can utilize your Fish Ponds to gather Sturgeon Roe. Unlike the commonplace Roe in the Valley, the Sturgeon Roe can provide you with Caviar if you place them into a Preserves Jar. It’ll take the game 6000m to generate Caviar, so be mindful of the timing, for this can take a few in-game days to pass by.
Once 6000m has surpassed, a single serving of Caviar provides 175 Energy points and 78 in Health upon consumption. If you choose to sell the luxurious food, you’ll receive 500g; skilled Artisans can get 700g for their efforts.
