State of Decay 2 | How to Demote Leader

State of Decay 2 Leader and Community

In a world infested with zombies and hostile humans, establishing trust among people can be an everyday challenge. For State of Decay 2 players, this is greatly exemplified by the dangers you’ll run into with your allies. That’s why it’s vital to have a leader in your community to maintain morale. But what happens if there needs to be a change in leadership? If you don’t want to exile or kill your former leader, you can always demote them. Read on to learn how to demote a leader.

To demote your current leader, head to the Community tab where the leader will be highlighted. From there, you can select “Demote Leader” and with the push of a button they’ll be demoted. However, once that’s done you’ll have to deliver the bad news to them in person, which is always a bit awkward.

Now that the leadership position is open, you’ll need to select a new leader for your community. Luckily, the process is quite similar. Simply head into the Community tab, select a character, and promote them to leader.

The leader receives the demotion and there’s a small morale penalty. It goes away very quickly, especially if you’re keeping yourself busy with scavenging and aiding other survivors. And when you’re ready for the new commander, you can pick whoever has the highest qualities to be in charge. It’s much more sufficient than losing a member of your community.

When State of Decay 2 was first released, there were two options the player could choose from when it comes to dealing with a leader and their exit. You could either exile them into the plague, or you could just kill them. Sounds very grim, but those were your only choices before an update changed that for the better. Instead of being sadistic humans, placing them back into citizen status is for the better.

Remember to keep in mind that there are four types of leaders that you can select: Builder, Sheriff, Trader, and Warlord. Each type comes with a project and specialized facilities. It really all depends on what kind of survivor you want to be. Perhaps you want to be a trading giant so you go with the Trader; if you wish to eliminate all outside threats, you might be better off with a Warlord. Everyone has their preference, and picking the right leader for you is ideal for your community and overall gameplay.
