Broken Bones Status Effect in Stranded Deep

The Broken Bones status in Stranded Deep can be a real pain. Just like in real life, breaking an arm or leg is going to slow you down and cause your health to decrease. Thankfully, there is an easy way to fix a broken bone, but you’ll need a few items to craft it. Let’s get started!

What Does the Broken Bones Status Mean?

In Stranded Deep, the Broken Bones status effect means that you’ve, well, broken a bone. When this happens, there will be an auditory snapping sound.

If you’ve broken a leg, you’ll notice that your character is now limping. If you’ve broken your arm, when you check your watch in the game, you’ll notice that your arm is twisted into an awkward, broken shape.

Unfortunately, it’s fairly easy to break a bone while exploring the island, and it can happen by falling from a great height or by a shark attack.

If this happens, you’ll receive a Broken Bones status that won’t go away until it’s healed. While you’re injured, your health, hunger, and thirst bars will decrease by 0.5% per second. You will also take extra damage when you jump.

How Long Do Broken Bones Take to Heal?

Broken bones won’t heal on their own in Stranded Deep. You will need to make a Splint to get rid of the status.

However, as long as you keep your health up, broken bones won’t kill you. But they will slow you down and prevent you from making progress.

How to Fix Broken Bones and Craft a Splint

Crafting a Splint Will Cure Broken Bones in Stranded Deep

To fix Broken Bones in Stranded Deep, you’ll need to craft a Splint. Once you’ve reached Crafting Level 2, head to the crafting menu to make one with two sticks and two lashings.

Sticks can be found lying around the island or by cutting Ficus trees, driftwood piles, and wood logs.

Lashings can be made from four Fibrous Leaves. You’ll find Fibrous Leaves lying around the island or by chopping down a Yucca Tree or Palm Sapling.

Expert Tip: Splints can only be used once, so it’s always good to have an extra on hand in case you accidentally break another bone. They’re easy to craft and worth storing in your inventory.

Once you’ve got the necessary materials, simply open up your crafting menu and navigate to the Splint to craft it.

Simply use it like any other item and you’ll be able to get rid of your Broken Bones.

How to Avoid Broken Bones

It’s inevitable that you’re going to have a broken leg or arm at some point in Stranded Deep, but there are a couple of easy ways to avoid it happening regularly.

Don’t Jump Off Things

Jumping off a structure or cliff is a great way to end up with a broken leg. Even if you think it’s not high enough to cause a broken bone, it’s worth finding an alternate route back to the surface.

It may take a little extra time, but it’s worth it to not have to heal your broken bones all the time.

Avoid Swimming in the Ocean

Unless you’re trying to kill a shark, you’re going to want to avoid them because they can easily break your arm or leg.

So, if you’re planning to explore a neighboring island, simply build a raft and use it to travel between locations. If you try to swim, you’ll likely get attacked by a shark and end up having to cure a broken bone.

Save Regularly

Stranded Deep allows you to re-load previous save files, so it’s wise to save regularly.

If you’re far from home and don’t have an extra Splint in your inventory, or simply don’t want to deal with healing a broken bone, you can always re-load a previous save.

Just remember, you will lose all the progress since your last save, so make sure you’re saving regularly.
