The status conditions in Stranded Deep are almost as annoying to fix as in real life. When you’re on a desert island, surrounded by dangerous creatures, becoming poisoned can be a death sentence. In fact, getting rid of it is rather challenging for beginning survivors. Poison is one of the more common status conditions that you can encounter while you’re exploring, and there are a ton of creatures that can inflict it. So, knowing how to cure poison can be one of the best skills you can have while surviving on the Pacific.
How to Get Rid of Poisoning
There are two ways to get rid of poisoning in Stranded Deep: Make an Antidote or survive for 72 in-game hours.
Obviously, the best option to stop poisoning is with the Antidote, but you won’t be able to make it until you’ve reached Craftsmanship Level 3.
So if you’re not there yet, and have poisoning but no Antidote, you’re going to have to try to ride it out.
How to Make an Antidote
You can cure the poison status condition in Stranded Deep by consuming an Antidote. You can make an Antidote by combining a Pipi with a Coconut Flask, after reaching Craftsmanship Level 3.
Pipi is a small green plant that can be found growing around the island.
A Coconut Flask can be crafted with a Coconut and a Lashing, both of which are found lying around the island. If you can’t find a Lashing, you can craft one with four Fibrous Leaves.
How Long Does Poison Last?
If you don’t have an Antidote, the poison status will last for 72 hours before it goes away.
You can wait for the poison to wear off without a cure by keeping your health up and sleeping, but it’s tricky.
The poison status will also make it a lot harder to survive the normal traumas of the island, but it does not stack with additional poison effects.
This means that you can only get poisoned once, and most creatures that cause poison don’t deal damage.
Expert Tip: If your survival days have just begun and you’ve been poisoned without attaining Craftsmanship Level 3, we recommend reloading your game. Poison does pretty high damage over time, considering it’s a permanent effect and it’s hard to get rid of.
However, your best bet to get rid of poison is going to be by crafting the Antidote. So, Pipi plants are going to be crucial, and making Pipi farm is essential to your survival.
Based on our experience, we recommend making two separate farms per player to ensure that you’re always ready for accidental poisoning.
Can You Survive Poisoning Without an Antidote?
Yes, you can survive poisoning without an Antidote if you can keep your health up for 72 in-game hours.
Basically, you need to keep your food and water levels full at all times and heal any other ailments while you sleep off the poison status.
However, if you let your food and water status get low, then you will likely die from poisoning.
How to Avoid Getting Poisoned
If you’re just starting out, one of the easiest ways to die in Stranded Deep is by getting poisoned. Unfortunately, you can’t craft the Antidote until you’re at Craftsmanship Level 3. So it’s crucial that you know how to avoid getting poisoned early on.
Since you likely won’t be exploring the ocean as you’re just starting out, the best way to avoid getting poisoned is to listen for snakes and stay away from them.
If you’re getting close to a snake, you’ll hear a hissing sound. If you hear it, stop immediately and figure out where the snake is, and then be sure to avoid it.
As you start to explore neighboring islands, be sure to always use a raft so that you avoid accidentally bumping into one of the poisonous animals in the water.
Further, we suggest that you save your progress regularly. If you’re saving often, you can simply reload a previous save without losing too much progress.
But if you only save occasionally, then you’ll have to try to survive the poison duration before you die and lose all your progress.
Which Animals Are Poisonous?
The most common cause of poisoning in Stranded Deep is from sea creatures, as a lot of them roam in the shallow depths of the waters.
Here are the animals that can cause poisoning in Stranded Deep:
- Crown of Thorns Starfish
- Lion Fish
- Sea Snakes
- Sea Urchin
- Snakes
When I first started playing, I got poisoned by snakes. However, once I learned to listen for the hiss, they rarely got me.
Expert Tip: If you’re frequently traveling between islands, be sure to build a raft. It provides you with the protection that you’ll need from the poisonous animals that are in the water.
Of course, it helps to always be cognizant of your surroundings. Any unsuspecting sound is alarming enough for your attention and means a poisonous creature could be lurking nearby. Don’t approach them, and they won’t approach you.
