Subnautica: Below Zero Diamond | Where to Find

Subnautica: Below Zero does little to change the formula that its predecessor started. It’s super important to explore every environment to find all of the upgrade materials that you need. One of the most critical components of your ship in Subnautica Below Zero is diamond. The diamond is one of the more precious minerals that you need for mid-game upgrades. So, where can you find it and where can you mind more? We have you covered.

Where to Find a Diamond in Subnautica: Below Zero

Subnautica Below Zero Diamond

You can find a diamond in deep mines and crevices in Subnautica: Below Zero. You can get some early diamonds in the entrance of the Koppa Mines, and in the Deep Twisty Bridges below 200 meters, once you get extra oxygen holds. Once you get those, you will find diamond deposits deep in the Tree Spires, Crystal Caves, Delta Island, the Arctic, the Thermal Spires, and the Arctic Spires. You can essentially start farming diamonds the moment that you are able to stay under 200 meters at any primary mining location.

The diamonds in Koppa Mines are easy to grab once you can make it there. However, you only can get 3-4, which means you’ll have to make a hard decision on what you get from your first handful.

Diamonds are used to construct six different items:

  • Fabricated Glass (1 Diamond)
  • Reinforced Dive Suit (2 Diamonds)
  • Laser Cutter (2 Diamonds)
  • Prawn Suit Drill Arm (4 Diamonds)
  • Seatruck Energy Efficiency Upgrade (2 Diamonds)
  • Modification Station (1 Diamond)

We suggest saving your diamonds for the Suit, Laser Cutter, or Modification Station since those are most directly useful for progress and safety.

Once you progress fairly far into the story, then Sea Monkeys bring you various resources. They could have a diamond in their cute little hands, which means that these guys can, randomly, hand over some precious minerals. However, that’s late enough in the game that you should probably have a plan to get under 200 meters and harvest diamonds by yourself.
