The upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie will be getting its first trailer at New York Comic Con.
Nintendo and NYCC made the announcement on Twitter earlier today. The trailer will debut October 6th at 4 P.M. Eastern.
The upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie has been in development for a few years now. The voice cast was officially revealed during a Nintendo Direct in September of 2021. It is a joint production from Illumination, best known for the Despicable Me franchise, and Nintendo. Universal Pictures will distribute the movie.
Thus far, the announced cast is as follows:
- Mario – Chris Pratt
- Princess Peach – Anya Taylor-Joy
- Luigi – Charlie Day
- Bowser – Jack Black
- Toad – Keegan-Michael Key
- Seth Rogen – Donkey Kong
- Fred Armisen – Cranky Kong
- Kevin Michael Richardson – Kamek
- Sebastian Maniscalco – Foreman Spike
Charles Martinet, who voices Mario in the Super Mario Bros. video game franchise, will have a cameo in the movie.
To call the Super Mario Bros. movie divisive would be an understatement. Aside from the incredibly poor reception from the 1993 film, which is one of the worst video game movies ever made, the casting for the upcoming Mario movie has been head-scratching, to say the least.
The Super Mario Bros. movie, which doesn’t have an official title yet, will release in theaters on April 7th, 2023. It is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and written by Matthew Fogel.
