It’s no secret that Super Mario RPG is packed with hidden pathways, puzzling mysteries, and other challenges. Some players might have trouble discovering certain secrets in the game, particularly with the Forest Maze in mind. The area is home to a secret treasure room that players can find once they enter the Forest Maze.

The question is, though, where exactly is the Forest Maze secret treasure in Super Mario RPG? Furthermore, what does it contain? While locating the hidden room will require some navigation, players should also consider a couple of options regarding the treasure. With this in mind, Mario and the gang should visit a certain Toad in Rose Town to unveil the secret.

To find the secret treasure hiding within the Forest Maze in Super Mario RPG, players must enter an area in the forest “with four paths,” according to a Toad in Rose Town. The Toad refers to this particular area where Mario first spots Geno in the Forest Maze, who darts toward the bottom-right pathway. For further reference, the four-way place contains a spinning Amanita and a couple of Buzzers.

From this area, assuming players choose not to speak with the Toad in Rose Town, they can locate the room independently instead. To get there, begin your journey by accessing the area with four pathways. Start toward the top-left, entering an area with more spinning Amanitas and Buzzers. Next, head toward the bottom-left, where Mario will encounter additional Amanitas and Buzzers. Then, go to the bottom left again with another group of enemies. From there, make your way to the top-left of the screen, where you’ll find a tree stump to jump down into. Here is where you’ll find five chests within the secret treasure room.

Forest Maze Secret Treasure Room Steps to Area with Four Paths

If you’re starting from the very beginning of the Forest Maze, a different set of instructions is needed. Begin your journey by heading to the top-left, entering an area, and then jumping down a tree stump. Traverse the underground area while searching for a trampoline. Jump on the trampoline to access a new area of the Forest Maze.

Next, go top-left, then top-left once more, progressing through tree stumps and Wigglers, then head down the tree stump at the very end. Here, players will enter another underground area where they can follow the same steps of finding and jumping on a trampoline. From there, players will enter the Forest Maze again. Finally, go to the top-right of the screen to enter the area with four pathways. Thus, follow the steps to locate the Forest Maze secret treasure room.

The Forest Maze secret treasure room chests contain two Flowers, two Mushrooms, and one Frog Coin. Players will accumulate these items if they choose to avoid interacting with the Toad in Rose Town. However, the items can change depending on your actions.

One of the many NPCs players can interact with in Super Mario RPG is a Toad that knows a bit about treasure. If players want to complete this character’s questline, they must help him get back home first.

The house in question is located to the far back left of Rose Town, where players must jump on top of the Toad to access the home. Enter the home, get to the second floor, and activate the giant green button by jumping onto it. When you’re done, return to the first floor, steal the two not-so-hidden treasure chests (containing Flowers), and then exit the house to speak with the Toad. Doing so will cause stairs to appear outside.

When the Toad asks about the condition of the treasures, players can respond to either one of two options: reassure him that the treasures are safe or imply that something went wrong. Both options will provide players with the Toad’s secret, regardless of whether or not they opened the treasure chests.

Expert Tip

It’s important to consider the contents of the treasure-hunting Toad’s hidden chests in his home. Should players steal the chests after obtaining the secret information from the Toad, they will find that the items have changed from Flowers to coins. This change isn’t recommended, since Flowers can permanently increase the player’s FP in Super Mario RPG.

From there, players can proceed with the side quest in a few different ways. All outcomes will result in other rewards, though there is one recommended route to consider for the best rewards. First, go to the forest and take the items from the five chests. Then, head to Rose Town to steal the Toad’s treasures. When asked about their disappearance, confess to the misdeed, and players will muster up the following items: two Frog Coins, five Flowers, and one Mushroom.

The side quest will come to an end after acquiring the information from the Toad. There are still other events to explore in Rose Town, so check out every corner where some Toads remain hidden from the player’s isometric perspective.
