One thing that makes Terraria stand out from its other open-world survival counterparts is its NPCs. In contrast, games like Minecraft have NPCs in the form of Villagers. Terraria has different NPCs that have jobs that will enhance the player’s experience, and help them on their journey to beat the world’s threats. But, how many NPCs are there in Terraria?
How Many NPCs Are In Terraria?
Terraria has 28 NPCs who exist in the game. Some of them move into your town, and some of them will live outside of the town. But, if you want to have these characters move in, you have to meet some requirements first.
Each NPC has a spawning requirement, which means you’ll have to pass a milestone to get the ability for them to move in. The second requirement is that there needs to be an amicable living space for them to move in. Houses cannot be built in Crimson or Corruption, and the building of the house needs to be encased by a frame of blocks, and background walls. On top of this, each room needs to include a light source as well. Finish that off with a table and a chair, and you’ll be set for NPCs to move in.
They’ll move in on their own as well. Here are all the NPCs in Terraria:
- Guide
- Merchant
- Nurse
- Demolitionist
- Dye Trader
- Angler
- Zoologist
- Dryad
- Painter
- Golfer
- Arms Dealer
- Tavernkeep
- Stylist
- Witch Doctoer
- Clothier
- Mechanic
- Party Girl
Once you defeat the wall of flesh and move into hard mode. More will move in. Here are all Hardmode NPCs that will move in.
- Wizard
- Tax Collector
- Truffle
- Pirate
- Steampunker
- Cyborg
- Santa (Only During Christmas)
- Princess
These are all the NPCs in Terraria, and plenty of them do different things. NPCs like the Tax Collector will give you a passive income, while some of them, like the Clothier, will sell vanity items. Each is important to your playthrough, as they’ll help you in different ways.
Some, like the Star Merchant were only available in the old Chinese version of the game. This NPC would sell items for both in-game, and real-world money. While it’s not included in the list since the NPC has been phased out, it’s interesting to see what kind of characters were included throughout Terraria’s life cycle.
