The Game Awards 2022's Biggest Announcements

It’s the biggest night in gaming for a reason, as we detail the biggest announcements from the 2022 Game Awards show.

Over the past years, Geoff Keighley’s show has revealed some major announcements. From Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s shocking announcement to Josef Fares flipping off The Oscars, there’s never a dull moment with the show.

At the show’s start, Geoff Keighley mentions that after checking for leaks all week, he’s confident that some of the biggest announcements remain a mystery. What are they? Let’s find out together!

The First World Premieres Come Fast and Furious

Supergiant Games, best known for Bastion and Hades, is back with another roguelike adventure. For the company’s first time, it’s a direct sequel: Hades II will pit the game’s protagonist against Kronos, the Titan God of Time.

Ghost Story Games, led by Ken Levine and the creators of BioShock, have finally revealed their first game: Judas, a narrative-driven experience.

A big surprise is another entry from the Bayonetta franchise. Coming March 17th, 2023, is Bayonetta: Cereza and the Lost Demon, a new action-adventure game that dives deeper into the Bayonetta lore.

After a performance from Hozier and some more awards, we get a video for new footage from the newest Destiny 2 expansion, Lightfall.

Immediately after, we get more footage from the upcoming Suicide Squad game. It’s a lengthy trailer that doubles as a touching tribute to Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice of Batman for thirty years. Geoff Keighley confirms that Conroy voices Batman for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League when it releases in 2023.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Is Officially Revealed

After accidentally leaking this week, the debut footage for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is unveiled. Developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts, Survivor is the sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The single-player game features cinematic action and fast-paced combat. It’s set to release on March 17th, 2023.

At the conclusion of the trailer, voice actor Cameron Monaghan came on stage to hype Survivor up as one of the best Star Wars games of all time. We’ll be curious to see how it would rank on our list of every Star Wars game ranked. Yes, we do mean every Star Wars game.

From the creators of Celeste comes Earthblade. A brief teaser trailer highlights some gameplay, but the trailer is vague other than the game’s planned 2024 release. This one is a ways off still.

Speaking of teaser trailers, we get one for Dune Awakening, the upcoming MMORPG in the Dune universe for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The Next Game From Hideo Kojima Is A Sequel

After what felt like an eternity’s worth of speculation online, Hideo Kojima’s next project is revealed. From Kojima and Sony Interactive Entertainment is Death’s Stranding 2, the sequel to 2019’s controversial Death’s Stranding.

We’re treated to a teaser trailer that tells us, well, absolutely nothing.

On stage, Kojima mentions he can’t be specific as to what’s new for the sequel, but he wants fans to talk and speculate online to discover the hidden details in the game.

Death’s Stranding 2 stars Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and Troy Baker.

After commercials and the award for Best Narrative, we’re treated to a new trailer for Tekken 8. The cinematic trailer mixes story beats, in-game cutscenes, and glimpses of gameplay. We’ve also gotten confirmation for select fighters for the game’s roster. Tekken 8 will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.

Nightengale, the new game from the studio founded by former BioWare Aaron Flynn, gets a new trailer. After its reveal at last year’s Game Awards show, we’re shown more of what to expect from the upcoming shared-world survival game.

After the Games for Impact award, we’re treated to a new trailer for the upcoming Baldur’s Gate 3.

Next up, Digital Extremes (Warframe) and Airship Syndicate revealed their upcoming collaboration, Wayfinder. Closed Beta begins next week.

Halsey Takes The Stage And Performs ‘Lilith’

Before we get some Diablo IV information, singer Halsey performed the song ‘Lilith’ on stage. From there, a new trailer debuts.
