For how adventurous Link is in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, he sure has trouble swimming. There’s a whole world to explore just underneath the surface of the water, but that seems to be a barrier that’s hard to break. That’s because you have to unlock it, and even then it’s annoying to do! If you want to know how to dive in Skyward Sword, we’ve got you covered!
How to Dive Underwater in Skyward Sword
In order to dive underwater in Skyward Sword HD, you first need to get the Water Dragon’s Scale by completing the Silent Realm Trial in Faron Woods. Once you have the Water Dragon’s Scale, jump into water, then swing the Joycon downwards (or press down on the D-pad) to dive below the surface.
The Silent Realm Trial in Faron Woods happens quite early in the game, and will happen before you really need to be able to dive. It’s a stealth mission, so you just have to walk around and avoid guardians. Don’t worry; as you collect the 15 Tears of Farore, the guardians will pause, letting you get to the next tear.
The Water Dragon’s Scale is a simple key item, meaning you don’t need to equip or use it in order to go underwater. This is a breath of fresh air, since other Zelda games usually require you to put on a suit of some kind.
You still don’t get to breathe underwater yet! You’ll need to find air bubbles or opportunities to surface if you want to refill your air meter. Keep an eye on it while you’re swimming!
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is a remake of the 2011 Wii title of the same name. With motion controls that were considered janky but loveable, and a story with an absolutely enchanting world, Skyward Sword is destined to be a classic for the ages.
