The Quarry Monsters | What Are They?

The Quarry Monsters - What Are They?

Supermassive’s latest horror game The Quarry, is a modern take on the classic camp-themed killfest. The monsters in these themes are usually maniacs or otherworldly, single-minded murders. The Quarry has taken this in a different direction. So what are the monsters in this game? We’ll be more than happy to tell you.

Keep in mind that this is treading moderately into spoiler territory, so if you’re looking to keep things mysterious, we would not suggest reading further.

What Are The Monsters in The Quarry?

What Are The Monsters in The Quarry?

You find out relatively early on in the game that the game’s baddies are some type of creature. They look shiny and slick, almost like a lizard of some sort at first glance. Believe it or not, the monsters in The Quarry are actually werewolves. Supermassive Games obviously took some liberties with the design here, though. They’re more fleshy and demonic, and seem to lack significant fur or anything that would make them distinctly wolf-like. Instead, it seems they chose to focus more on the claws, teeth, healing powers, and ridiculous speed and strength. One thing from the classic lore that does remain is their vulnerability to silver.

The Lycanthropy in this game is played off as both an infection and a curse. Anyone bitten, but not killed, heals from what should be mortal wounds, and they get more aggressive as the infection takes hold, regardless of their personality. The game also seems to follow the classical rule where they only transform during a full moon. Another extremely gory liberty they take is with this transformation. There is no slow, painful body horror-like metamorphosis played out in classic movies like An American Werewolf in London. In The Quarry, they quite literally burst out of their skin, with bloody chunks of their former human selves splattered all around after the fact. Interestingly enough, they don’t really show them turning back, it just kinda happens according to my playthrough of the game. Admittedly, this is a bit of a letdown
