Good news for Borderlands fans excited to play Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands: The game will support cross-play at launch. That means players across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC will be able to enjoy some co-op shooting fun together. It’s also good news because previous entries in the Borderlands saga have omitted this feature, so it makes a welcome return in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. Here’s everything we know about Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands cross-play.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Cross-Play Confirmed
Yes, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will allow players across console types, and even generations, to play together. That means an Xbox One user could squad up with a PlayStation 5 user, and so on. It’s a big development since the 2019 release of Borderlands 3, which launched without any sort of cross-play.
That game did receive collaborative play options down the line, but only in 2021, two years after launch. Equally, when the new generation of consoles landed in late 2020, there was no cross-generation support. That means PS4 players couldn’t play with PS5 players, despite the game only running on the newer hardware through backwards compatibility. That feature ultimately never came to fruition, so this development for Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is certainly welcomed.
The news was confirmed in a tweet today (March 13) from Randy Pitchford, CEO of the Gearbox Entertainment Company. The only caveat is that on PC, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is an Epic Games Store exclusive. As such, Steam users can’t get the game, so there is one limitation. Given the Epic Games Store software is free though, it’s not a comparable barrier to the cross-platform issues with Borderlands 3.
With Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands now just weeks away from release, its full cross-platform compatibility will send hype levels skyrocketing. Given how hard it still is to get a next-gen console, it means players of all varieties will be able to enjoy the wacky co-op shooter together.
