The UK and European Sales charts for video game sales in March are out. As reported by GamesIndustry.Biz, it was a good month for Nintendo, Xbox, and Elden Ring in the UK and Europe.
In the UK, Xbox was the best-selling console with 112,000 units sold. However, year-to-year sales are down 46% due to stock shortages for both Xbox and PlayStation consoles. The PlayStation 5 saw a sales increase of 45% compared to the prior month despite availability issues. While the Switch has seen sales fall 21% on a month-to-month basis, it is still the best-selling system in the UK in 2022.
Software wise, 2.77 million games were sold in the UK last month. Elden Ring was the top seller for the second consecutive month, followed by Gran Turismo 7. Grand Theft Auto 5, bolstered by the next-gen release, was third. Fifa 22 and WWE 2K22 round out the top five. Two new releases debuted in the top ten: Tiny Tina’s Wonderland at six and Kirby and the Forgotten Land at ten.
Moving onto Europe, the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console for March, followed by Xbox and PlayStation 5. The latter two are still suffering from “severe stock shortages.”
Software wise, Elden Ring continues to dominate, as expected. Like the UK, Gran Turismo 7 (2nd), Fifa 22 (3rd), and Grand Theft Auto 5 (4th) all make appearances in the top ten. Kirby saw more success in Europe, debuting at number five on the best-selling list. Tiny Tina’s Wonderland clocked in at number ten.
The overall theme for the UK and European sales charts is that consoles are doing the best they can when it comes to sales despite stock shortages. People are still super excited to play Grand Theft Auto 5; I can’t imagine what the sales will be like when the next Grand Theft Auto is finally released.
