Top heist film lists usually include classics like Ocean’s 11, Reservoir Dogs, and The Usual Suspects. And while those are all magnificent movies, one Redditor was looking for something outside the box. So here are ten top-voted heist movies that aren’t on all the lists. 

1. Rififi (1955)

Rififi is almost 70 years old, but it is still a classic enjoyed by crime thriller fans. When a jewel thief, Tony, comes out of prison after five years, he refuses another job offered by his friend. Then he changes his mind when he finds out his old girlfriend has started seeing a local gangster. 

Tony and his three accomplices plan and execute what appears to be a perfect crime. They upgrade a minor smash-and-grab to a full-scale jewel heist. But they aren’t ready for the consequences after that threaten the lives of everyone involved.

2. Den of Thieves (2018)

Den of Thieves follows an infamous crew of expert thieves who plans to rob the Federal Reserve Bank. A group of elite LA County Sheriff’s Department officers is tasked with stopping them. One user noted that Pablo Schreiber does a bang-up job of playing a convincing bad guy.

3. Dead Presidents (1995)

When Anthony (Larenz Tate), a Vietnam vet, struggles to support his family and give direction to his life, he takes a chance that involves crime and bloodshed. Anthony agrees to team up with his friends to rob an armored truck carrying cash.

4. The Town (2010)

The Town garnered critical acclaim everywhere. Jeremy Renner won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for playing James Coughlin, a thief in a proficient crew of bank robbers.

Besides Renner, the ensemble cast includes Ben Affleck, Rebecca Hall, Blake Lively, and John Hamm. The story follows a group of thieves robbing a bank and holding the assistant manager hostage.

5. Shade (2003)

A group of three con artists wants to up the ante and stop doing small-time scams. They plan to take down “The Dean,” a well-known card shark. But they would need money to enter into a game with him. To get money, they decide to scam a local gangster with the help of a fellow crook. Unfortunately, this turns out to be a bad idea.

6. Thief (1981)

In Thief, a skilled jewel thief wants to retire and live a legitimate life with his girlfriend, but he must make one last big score. Unfortunately, he makes the mistake of pairing up with a powerful gangster who wants to continue employing him. This results in a tense showdown between the two.

7. Logan Lucky (2017)

Logan Lucky is a heist comedy following two brothers who plan to rob a racing circuit during a NASCAR race in North Carolina and evade the authorities. Steven Soderbergh does an excellent job directing this high-octane piece of cinema just before his retirement.

8. The Sting (1973)

When a ruthless crime boss kills Johnny’s partner, he seeks revenge. Johnny is a swindler, and he takes the help of another con man trying to evade the FBI. According to Redditors, this film involves a complicated plot, great acting, on-point humor, and relatable emotion. It stars Robert Redford, Paul Newman, and Robert Shaw.

9. Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (1998)

This British comedy, directed by Guy Ritchie, will have you clenching your stomach laughing. Eddy persuades his three pals to pool money for a poker game against a local mobster. When Eddy loses, the mobster gives Harry one week to pay him back. The four friends are ready to do anything to get 500,000 pounds in days. Finally, they decide to attempt a robbery.

10. American Animals (2018)

These robbers don’t want money, jewels, or other expensive things. They want books. Four friends who are bored with their average existence plan to rob a school library of its rarest and most valuable books. But, when the project starts to unfold, they question whether it is worth it.
