Vault of the Void is a new collectible card game or CCG that incorporates rougelite elements to mix up player experience. For games like this where there hundreds of cards with each having their own effects and combinations on top of the intricate systems that point towards winning or losing a given match, players can get overwhelmed easily, especially beginners. While the best way to get on top of the games systems to play as much of it as possible, it is recommended that you at least get a general idea to the things that could make the game much easier.
In this guide, we will be sharing several tips and tricks to make your first hours in the game more approachable. Here is a beginner’s guide to Vault of the Void.
Beginner’s Guide – Vault Of The Void

Below are several tips and tricks that you may want to know before starting out your run. We have broken them down into three categories: General tips, to give you an insight to the game’s basics and for you to learn its mechanics even faster, In Battles, to give you an edge with your encounters, and Route Planning, to give you an idea to the ideal routes you may want to take with each run. Here they are:
General

- It is necessarily not a deckbuilder game – while building decks is indeed a crucial part of Vault of the Void, it isn’t its bread and butter. Your deck in the game is always consisted of 20 cards and you can choose what to put in and take out when. It is all about picking the best cards for a particular moment, you don’t have to build a deck that you will go to every time.
- There are various things you can upgrade in the game – this CCG allows upgrading cards and other stuff. Always keep this in mind as getting over a specific obstacle may just mean that you have to upgrade some cards.
- There are two currencies – Essence, which you’ll get primarily from card fights with a bountiful bonus for getting out of a battle unscathed and Souls, which are much rarer and are mostly received in non-trivial amounts from Elites or by choosing not to get healed or cleansed at a Shhrine.
- You can carry as much potion as you want – take advantage of the fact that you can take an infinite amount of potions with you in every run. However, you may only use them before combat.
- Every run ends in a boss rush – rather than battling several regular encounters on the final stretch of the game followed by a single powerful boss, Vault of the Void throws one boss after another to test your might and resolve. This may seem very punishing at first but overcoming a slew of bosses is truly fulfilling.
In Battles

- Blocking is reactive – There will only be very rare occasions where you’d have to block on the first turn. Always pay attention to what the enemy is doing, and try to block their approaches as best as you can.
- Cards and energy carry over between turns – this makes it so that the decisions you make with each turn carry more weight as it could drastically affect your next turn. Always be mindful of the cards you have in hand and the energy you currently have per turn.
- You can trade cards for energy – if you believe you don’t have enough energy to play the combination of cards you want for a particular turn, remember that you can sacrifice as much cards as you want in exchange for energy.
- You have a spell that you can use at a cooldown – be mindful of the spell you have at the start of your run. Identify the ideal situations for you to use them and feel free to do so as it resets via a cooldown. These spells can turn the tide of the battle in your favor more than you know.
- The game does not rely much on RNG – unlike most CCGs where RNG is the name of the game, Vault of the Void only have a few cards that deal random damage to random enemies. Here, everything is more precise and tactical-oriented.
Route Planning

- Forcing yourself into a corner for a step can be a good idea at times – typically, every tile that you did not choose when deciding where to go next is destroyed upon stepping on a new tile. However, if there is only one way forward (mostly on corners), that will never be destroyed. Doing this allows you to get a series of tiles next to each other that is otherwise impossible when selecting tiles that are more in the center.
- Always check rewards – make the most out of your ability to check card rewards and to paint tiles by right clicking them. Mark down those that you consider a high priority based on the rewards they can give you and plan the route of your run according to it.
- Always prepare to adapt – as enticing as it is to always go for the tiles that give you the most rewards, you also have to pay close attention to your health and the resources you currently have. Adapt your run’s route based on these parameters.
- There are secret rooms to find – if you step into an empty space along the top of the floor with nothing to the top-right, there is a chance that there is a hidden treasure there. However, be sure to always contemplate if heading there is worth it as it risks you missing out on surer and perhaps more worthwhile rewards.
- Never engage with totally unnecessary fights – take note that the HP of most enemies actually scales based on how many rooms you have already been through on a particular run. So, if you won’t get any useful reward from engaging with them, then do not. It’s as simple as that.
There you have it! Those are a slew of beginner tips that you may always want to keep in mind when starting a run in Vault of the Void. At the end of the day, this game requires a ton of practice and experimentations to master. Hopefully, these tips help you get the most out of your beginning hours with the game.
