Cliffhanger Studios was first announced in 2021 when EA stated their intent to form a new studio led by Kevin Stephens, the former VP and studio head of Monolith Productions.

The studio has assembled a team of industry veterans who have worked on properties including Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Halo Infinite, and God of War.
