Soul Hackers 2 Review – Electric Cyberpunk Soul Hacking

Soul Hackers 2 showcases Atlus' Shin Megami Tensei series. It has demon discussions, turn-based warfare, and a fascinating sci-fi universe. I never connected with the tale and was annoyed by the game's unimaginative dungeons.

The game is vague about how certain things come to be, but JRPGs have never been great about explaining everything. I didn’t have a problem squashing my questions I had after the game’s exposition-ladened opening. Though, I took issue with how the game handles its characters.

Level 3

DATA PERSONIFIED: SOUL HACKED BUT NOT MUCH HEART

Soul Hacking, or reviving the dead, is also included. This approach can affect and plant thoughts in a deceased person's head. The game tried to make me care, but I never did. I've enjoyed parts. From Milady reading to an orphan to a mid-game adversary reveal, I missed a lot.

The Soul Matrix hides much of Arrow, Milady, and Saizo's development. The Soul Matrix is a labyrinth-like dungeon containing dead-ends, teleportation pads, and side quests. I liked learning about my party members, but dungeons were tedious. Ringo's party members have their own dungeons, but they differ little beyond floor layout.

SOUL HACKER 2’S BEST MOMENTS HIDDEN IN A LABYRINTH

If you're a turn-based battle fanatic like myself, you know how fantastic it feels when a system clicks. Soul Hackers 2 goes further. Soul Hackers resembles Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. Like similar games, you use your demon's powers to exploit an enemy's weakness.

BATTLES HACKED RIGHT INTO MY SOUL

The game's four party members each have their own weapon and design, although they're not really different. Saizo and Arrow employ guns, while Milady and Ringo utilize blades. It's not a major flaw, but I wanted more originality. Ringo gives the party Commander Skills.

Soul Hackers 2 is for Persona and Shin Megami Tensei fans. It's easy to start with no prior expertise. Even if you're unfamiliar with those other series, the game's duration makes it a fantastic introduction to Atlus. Compared to Shin Megami Tensei 5 and Persona 5 Royal, I beat it in 35 hours.
